Lamb Bolus Trial Reveals Major Performance Boost for Geraint Ingman

Geraint Ingram runs a flock of 250 Texel X ewes alongside a thriving agricultural contracting business at Tryddyn Fechan Farm near Mold in North Wales.
In 2016, Geraint was disappointed with how his lambs looked and were performing. “I felt as though they were lacking something, you could see on them that their fleece was dull and not tight” says Geraint.
“I’d heard good reports on ‘Mayo Turbo Lamb’ from various other farmers in the livestock market so I thought I’d do my own experiment at home to see if this could help improve the performance and appearance of my lambs.”
Whilst giving the lambs a worm dose in 2016 every other lamb up the race was administered a Turbo Lamb bolus. The lambs given the boluses were marked with a green dot on their backs. “As we drew lambs for market that summer, it quickly became apparent that the lambs which had received the bolus were performing far better. Most of lambs given the bolus had gone to market weeks before we had even picked any of the others that hadn’t received the bolus. It was remarkably interesting as we hadn’t given the bolus to the best lambs or anything, we simply did every other lamb as they came up the race” says Geraint.
Having seen first-hand the positive effect the bolus has on lamb performance; Geraint now gives every lamb a bolus when they are in for their first dose at around five to six weeks old. “After carrying out the trial in 2016 we have since given every lamb a Turbo Lamb bolus at first drench, we are delighted with the appearance and performance of our lambs on this system” adds Geraint.
Turbo Lamb is a slow release multi trace element and vitamin micro bolus for lambs and ewes providing up to eight weeks cover. Turbo Lamb contains Cobalt, Selenium, Iodine and a range of essential vitamins that promote growth and thrive in lambs. This product is also available with Copper and is called Turbo Lamb 8:1
